Despite that, it makes perfect sense: Star Wars is Star Wars, and there's no other way to really explain it. I'm sceptical about the notion that ??Revenge of the Sith?? is a political commentary, because I don't think even Lucas is capable of sinking that low. That our foreign 'enemies' may be in some ways misguided, but really they're just like us, and the real threat is the populist demagogues in our midst? I'm sceptical about the notion that ??Revenge of the Sith?? is a finely-crafted political commentary; it seems far more likely that Lucas has just thrown a few stereotypes together to form his 'protagonists', and bundled this with a watery and inconsistent set of social and spiritual values to form an ultimately incoherent film, whose main strength is that it is reaching out to not only what the original trilogy was, but what it has come to mean for those of us who have to a certain extent embraced it as a mythology of our own (which is a horribly garbled sentence, but you take my meaning: Star Wars is no longer merely the content of the films, but is loaded down with cultural and psychological baggage). The Evil English and all that. Plus a slice of good (bad) old-fashioned melodrama. That probably goes back to the founding mythology of America, ceejay. The Evil English and all that.
